If you're reading this, then wow! DiceBlog actually exists! Welcome, traveler, to this little nook of the internet. This post is mostly for my own purposes, and hopefully there are other more interesting posts for you to read up on the blog but I'm very glad you decided to stop by regardless!

Social media sucks, rentseeking weblord blog platforms suck only marginally less, and this seemed like the final option with the least amount of Total Suck. This, at least, cannot succumb to enshittification. Unfortunately this does come at the cost of considerably more effort on my part to make each individual post and page but hey, everything has a price.

I've been having a lot of fun piecing this whole thing together, and I'm hoping I can make it fun and fancy wherever possible even if that means taking an extra hour or so whenever I'm writing stuff. So what is the point? Why bother with this whole exercise instead of posting on a platform that will actually get traffic?

I mean first and foremost, it's fun! It feels super neat to build a little corner of the internet yourself with an IDE and a dream (speaking of, my fellow neocities enjoyers, please try installing and booting up Visual Studio Code + the Live Server extension, your life will be forever changed <3). This all just feels so deliciously human in a world that's becoming increasingly dominated by automated garbage generation. I already feel like I have a much greater appreciation for webdev as a whole now that I've spent time wrestling with CSS to get it to do what I wanted. I won't say how long it took to figure out the scrolling rainbow text, but I'm sure I will be using it generously over the course of this blog's lifetime.

Next, I love thinking out loud! I'm a huge proponent of rubber ducking beyond its most frequent use in programming. Explaining a concept or problem to someone else does so much to help me rotate and reconsider it in my own mind, and if I'm doing all that anyway I might as well do it here. This way I can keep on referencing, reconsidering, and sharing it in the future.

I'm somewhat hoping that this can become the longform cornerstone of my presence on the web. Blog posts that feel like they're worth sharing and putting in the extra effort can become threads, or articles, or tiktoks, or whatever they need to be to help reach more people. But I want to do my thinking here, in the safety and solitude of my own html. Despite my love of formal documentation, I know that keeping up with this kind of thing alongside Actually Making The Thing can feel like a huge chore. If this blog ever goes quiet for an extended period of time, it most likely just means that I'm deep in the mud of Making Stuffᵀᴹ. Hopefully I'll be coming back to update soon enough.

Soooooo yeah! Just getting my goals for the site laid out for myself ahead of time. Let's see how it all goes!
